Perlite is an industrial mineral that, when heated above 900ºC, softens volcanic glass making the water molecules trapped in the rock to evaporate and expand the particles like  “popcorn.”

These expanded particles are actually groups of small round, light and insulating glass particles. Broken spheres and spheres having openings on their surface help rendering the capacity of containing air and water, which feature is especially significant in horticulture.

Perlite particles subsequently ground and crushed exhibit a labyrinth of microscopic paths that may be used to filter and clean a large variety of liquids, beverages and pharmaceutical products.
